A commonly heard phrase in the spiritual community is, “let me consult my guides.” In fact, it’s become so common for people to talk about spirit guides that there are tons of books on them, meditations to help you contact them, and people who offer classes on how to strengthen your connection with them. However, there still seems to be some question as to what a spirit guide is, what purpose they serve in our lives, and how we can connect with them, so let’s discuss all of that and more!
What Is A Spirit Guide?
A Spirit Guide is a spiritual entity that is there to guide you through life. They are different than your ancestors in that most spirit guides didn’t know you when they were alive. There are some people that believe that spirit guides never lived an actual human life on Earth, but I believe otherwise. Some people, like myself, also lump archangels, like Michael and Gabriel, and ascended masters, like Jesus, into the category of spirit guides because they are spiritual guides that can be there when we call on them. Others don’t think of them as being a spirit guide because they reserve that role for a different being. Either way, it becomes apparent that we have a team of spiritual entities, or guides, working with us from the other side to help us navigate the trials and tribulations of our lives. Some people believe that we have one main guide, while others believe we have a team of up to seven or more!
What Role Does A Spirit Guide Play In My Life?
Spirit Guides are there from the beginning before we are born here on Earth. They help us with our soul contracts, outlining the major life events that we will go through. Once we are born, our spirit guide or guides help to make sure we stay on the correct path and honor our soul contracts. It’s believed that our guides will even report on our lives back to a higher counsel, asking for amendments to be made in our contracts as they see fit. If we agreed to some hardship before we were born, but are handling it very rough now, our guides may choose to delay a second oncoming hardship or at least try to lessen the blow. Because most of us are born with no recollection of writing our soul contract or meeting with a spirit guide before choosing this life, our spirit guides often stay out of the limelight because it could potentially sway your soul contract if they made themselves known. While there are those that do have connections with theirs, many people don’t; however, your spirit guides are always willing and waiting for you to acknowledge them and attempt to make a connection.
Connecting With Your Spirit Guide
First and most importantly, if you are really wanting to build a connection with your spirit guides, then you must be open to the interaction. It sounds silly to say it like that, but it’s very true. There are many people who think they are ready, and then get startled or scared when their spirit guide starts to make themselves known. They will never hurt or harm you because they are there to help guide you through life. They are an asset that we are all born with, and should never be feared – they are not a dark entity. Like with any form of spiritual work, it is important to be psychically grounded and protected, especially when opening yourself up to communications from beyond, but as long as you are only letting in the light, your spirit guide will shine through, and you won’t be in any harm. Allowing yourself to start to experience these connections is the first step. Talking to your spirit guides is the second. Have a conversation with them at least once a day and see where the conversation goes and how the relationship builds.
